Caught up with 2017 wide receiver, Jordan Pouncey

Last Thursday (May 20th), Penn State offered 2017 wide receiver/athlete, Jordan Pouncey from Winter Park, Florida.

The soon to be senior currently has numerous offers from all over the country including schools such as Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Duke, Tennessee, and Michigan State. The “Pouncey” name may sound familiar as Jordan is the second cousins of NFL twins Mike and Maurkice of the Steelers and Dolphins respectively.

I was able to catch up with Jordan and get a few of his thoughts on his recent Penn State offer and what he thought of Penn State.

Question: What was your first thought on your offer from Penn State?
Answer: The offer from Penn State is an honor. Penn State is such a prestigious school with tremendous tradition.

Question: What are three things that first come to mind when thinking about Penn State?
Answer: 1. Joe Paterno 2. Tradition 3. Big time football

Question: What is most important to you when choosing a school?
Answer: What is most important to me is relationships with the coaches

Question: Being from Florida, does distance matter when choosing a future school?
Answer: Being from Florida, proximity used to be a big thing, but now that I have so many offers from big time schools that are out of that, I do not mind leaving Florida anymore.

Thank you, Jordan for taking the time to answer a few questions, and good luck with your upcoming season, school, and the rest of your recruiting process.

Is Penn State building a pipeline from Ohio to Happy Valley?

Is Penn State building a pipeline from Ohio to Happy Valley?

Not sure there is a better team in the country at keeping in state talent at home than Ohio State, but it seems that Coach Franklin and staff are looking to dive in and build a pipeline from the Buckeye State to Happy Valley.

The 2017 class currently has 8 verbal commitments, with 2 of them (Sean Clifford and Michael Miranda) being from the state of Ohio. After this past weekend, Matt Dotson (TE from Cincinnati, OH) is now believed to be trending towards the Nittany Lions, and Penn State seems to be in good standing with several other Ohio recruits in the 2017 class such as Danny Davis (WR from Springfield, OH), Joel Honigford (OT from Sugarcreek, OH), and Lynn Bowden (ATH from Youngstown, OH)

Below I laid out the commitments by year from Ohio for the last 10 years:

2017: 2 (Sean Clifford, Michael Miranda)
2016: 3 (Anthony Johnson, Antonio Shelton, Alex Gellerstedt)
2015: 0
2014: 1 (Chance Sorrell)
2013: 0
2012: 1 (Anthony Stanko)
2011: 0
2010: 0
2009: 1 (Nate Cadogan)
2008: 2 (Michael Zordich, Brandon Beachum)
2007: 0
2006: 0

Matt Dotson has “Amazing” visit to Happy Valley

Matt Dotson is Penn State’s top tight end recruit in the 2017 cycle and the Nittany Lions helped their chances at landing Dotson’s talents tremendously yesterday on an unofficial visit to Happy Valley. Matt currently has a top 3 of Penn State, Michigan, and Michigan State, and many believed that Michigan State was the leader. I believe that Penn State was in third in that list as Matt never visited State College until this past weekend. That visit may have just bumped Penn State into the lead.

NEW OFFER! Penn State offers 2017 WR, Sean Savoy

Yesterday, Penn State offered 2017 wide receiver, Sean Savoy from Washington, D.C. while he was in Happy Valley for an unofficial visit. The speedy wide receiver has already picked up several offers from schools such as Iowa, Virginia Tech, Miami, and Maryland. It seems that both Miami and Virginia Tech have been recruiting Savoy the hardest, but now that the Nittany Lions have offered I believe that they may jump into the mix as a serious contender with Sean.

5-star PA cornerback names top 10

Lamont Wade from Clairton, Pennsylvania released his top 10 choices this evening and as expected, Penn State made the cut. James Franklin and staff made a point to let Wade know that he was one of the top priorities in the 2017 class (if not the top priority overall). The feeling may be mutual as Wade is making another visit east to Happy Valley this weekend. In my eyes, Penn State is in very good position to land Lamont’s talents.

Recently offered 2017 DE lists Penn State in his Top 4

Penn State offered 2017 defensive end, Jacub Panasiuk on Monday and yesterday Jacub released a list of his top 4 schools. The list consisted of Penn State, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Indiana. Safe to say that Panasiuk is really interested in staying in the Big Ten like his older brother Mike, who signed with Michigan State this past National Signing Day. With his older brother at Michigan State, recruiting analysts rightfully so have heavy predictions for Jacub to join him in East Lansing.

NEW OFFER! Penn State offers 2017 Safety from California

Penn State has extended an offer on Tuesday to, Rhedi Short from Los Angeles, California. Rhedi is a recent verbal de-commitment from UCLA (May 8th) and has approximately 15 offers now from schools such as Oregon, Cal, Boise State, and Arizona where I think he may be trending.

The reason I believe he may be leaning Arizona’s way is due to his visit to their Junior Day on May 7th, the day before his de-commitment from UCLA. Rhedi has also visited the Wildcat’s campus back on March 23rd. Penn State could get in the running if they can convince Rhedi to take a visit to Happy Valley.

May 2017 – My “Penn State Crystal Ball” 2017 Class

Below is my personal predictions on how Penn State’s Class of 2017 will finish as of now.

The list includes uncommitted recruits who have a Penn State offer or recruits that I believe have higher interest in the Nittany Lions and will eventually gain an offer.

I believe the 2017 class will end up with around 17 commits when National Signing Day comes around February 1, 2017

Again, NSD is a long way off and commitments today are just verbal. I did not list possible flips down the road in either direction.

Penn State to visit 2017 tight end Alexander Marshall today

Penn State is set to visit tight end, Alexander Marshall at the Proctor Academy today. This is Penn State’s second visit to New Hampshire in the last few weeks. Marshall has yet to hold a Penn State offer, but like I said in my “Week in Review” from May 2nd, I think he has one coming in the near future.

Penn State’s top tight end prospect in the 2017 class is Matt Dotson who has a top 3 of Penn State, Michigan, and Michigan State and Matt is set to visit Happy Valley this coming weekend. I’m not confident that Penn State will land Dotson, and Penn State will then put the full court press on Alexander Marshall for their 2017 tight end spot. Marshall is by no means a downgrade from Dotson, and personally I like Marshall better at 6’7 and 240 pounds.

Some of Marshall’s current offers include Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Ohio State, UCLA, and USC. Hoping that Penn State will add their name to the list 0f the 30 schools who would like Alexander’s talent.
